Gary R. Heerkens, PMP, CPM, MPM, CPC, CIPM, MMC, CBM, CIPA, PEng, MBA, IAPPM Fellow, AAPM Fellow, is the president of Management Solutions Group, a firm that provides progressive and effective project management training and consulting solutions. Before establishing Management Solutions Group, he managed projects for Eastman Kodak for over 20 years, and later served as staff assistant to Kodak’s director of project management, developing and delivering project management training, developing project process methodology, and consulting within Kodak.
Mr. Heerkens is a long-standing seminar provider for Project Management Institute’s SeminarsWorld series, and was the project management education provider for the Purchasing Management Association of Canada. He has been invited to speak at 16 of the last 17 PMI Global Congresses – including encore requests at the 2007 and 2008 events. In 2015, he was invited to be the speaker representing the United States at the IPMA World Congress.
Mr. Heerkens was a contributing editor to PMI’s PM Network magazine from 2009 through 2015, writing on “the business of projects”. He authored McGraw-Hill’s Briefcase Book on Project Management, still a leading seller today, and The Business-Savvy Project Manager, which was published in 2007.
Mr. Heerkens is a member of several professional societies, including PMI, IAPPM, APBM, AAPM, and IPMA, where he has received a number of professional certifications; he has been honored as a Fellow by IAPPM and by AAPM. In 2012, Solutions Network of Canada named him one of the 25 best project managers in North America
He was president of the PMI Rochester Chapter from 1998-2001, and was re-elected president in 2005-2006. He’s a licensed Professional Engineer in New York and holds an MBA from RIT.
